When I got pregnant with my first child, my best friend recommended that I hire a doula to help me with my pregnancy. For those of you who are not familiar with the term "doula", a doula is a person who helps a woman to go through a pregnancy-related situation. A doula is not a healthcare professional, but more of a person who provides support to women who are pregnant. I admit that I had to think twice before hiring a doula because I found it weird at first, but I am so glad I took my best friend's advice. It was comforting to go through my pregnancy with a doula because I had someone I can count on besides my husband who knows exactly what I need.
